A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION TO COMMEND P. SANDERS MCNEAL UPON HER RECEIPT OF AN ARTIST'S ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AS A PART OF THE GOVERNOR'S AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN THE ARTS PROGRAM.

WHEREAS, as an artist and an arts advocate, P. Sanders McNeal has brought both beauty and public attention to the arts community in Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, she has donated her works, her time, and her creative energy to promoting the arts; and

WHEREAS, Ms. McNeal has designed sets for stage and television, and has been the creative catalyst for numerous projects which have added significantly to the development of the arts in community life; and

WHEREAS, she served as co-founder and artistic director for the Deposit Guaranty Salon International, and was the inspiration in 1998 for the Mayor's Arts Achievement Honors Awards in Jackson, which honored three Mississippi greats: Eudora Welty, Margaret Walker Alexander and Thalia Mara; and

WHEREAS, in addition to being an outstanding leader in showcasing Mississippi and the arts, Ms. McNeal is also a gifted artist. Her paintings have been exhibited at the Salmagundi Club Non-Members' Juried Exhibition, the American Artist Professional League Grand National Exhibition in New York City, and the Degas Pastel Society's Third Biennial Exhibition in New Orleans; and

WHEREAS, she was selected as a finalist in the 1988 Still Life Painting Competition held by The Artist's Magazine, and was the featured artist in the First Biennial Mississippi Alumni Exhibition; and

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Legislature to recognize outstanding achievement by one of the citizens of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. P. Sanders McNeal upon the occasion of her naming as a recipient of a Governor's Artist's Achievement Award for Excellence in the Arts.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. McNeal.
